Cyclocross Clinic

MennoCross is one of a handful of cyclocross races that are open to all participants. Normally you need a race license in order to race. But MennoCross features an "Open Race" for participants who do not have a race license (see the poster below for more details). Part of the fun of it all is in bringing together riders of all ages and abilities for a good day of racing and socializing.

But there are no doubt some who need a little more convincing before giving it a try.

Are you thinking about trying out the race, but not quite sure what cyclocross is all about? Or perhaps you'd rather practice some dismounts and barriers before attempting them in the context of a race.

If so, we have something for you.

There will be a cyclocross clinic that will introduce the discipline of cyclocross and provide an opportunity to practice some of the more quirky cyclocross-specific skills. The clinic is free and will offer skills and drills for riders of all abilities.

Where: Canadian Mennonite University - 500 Shaftesbury Boulevard (site of the MennoCross race).

When: Thursday, Sept. 29 - 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. (dropping in midway is fine).

What should you expect? We'll play some games that involve cornering, bike handling and dismounting/remounting. It's pretty informal, more about working on technique than about working out. Bring your bike, your helmet and a bottle of water.

MennoCross 2011

Plans are coming together nicely for another exciting edition of MennoCross. This year's race is presented by title sponsor, Brian Reimer Audio. We are also proud to welcome a number of new supporting sponsors to the MennoCross family: Wallace & Wallace Fences, The Andrea Wiebe & Eric Neumann Team, Horizon Insurance, and Fude Restaurant. They join long-term sponsors Sanctoral Cycle, Epp Siepman Engineering, and Snider Orthotic Design. It is thanks to the generous support from sponsors like these that an event like MennoCross is possible.

If the weather holds and things stay dry, expect a fast, flowing course. The roller coaster ride through the hills will be back. The Bunker and the Stone Pit will be there too. Among the new developments in store for this year, we are relocating the start/finish line and registration area. It will now be on the paved road to the north of Founders Hall. We will also take a tour through the new CMU Farm.

And finally, MennoCross 2011 will mark the official debut of CMU's very own cycling team. They have impressed everyone with their performances in the first few cyclocross races of the season. Come out and cheer them on as they compete on their home turf.
